I love how the author is part of the #ownvoices movement and was able to show people through his writing that we need to accept and love ourselves the way we are. The message is beautiful and so are all the illustrations throughout the whole book. Thankfully, in the book there is a special someone who shows him that it is okay to not be like the rest. The little boy decides he will never go out and show his real shadow again. He embraces his shadow by wearing a pink dress but thinks he has made a mistake because of the way people stare at him. Throughout this book the little boy does not let anything get in the way of showing people his real shadow.
